In the evolving landscape of South African education, the traditional classroom is undergoing a profound transformation. Since 2014, the rise of smart devices, augmented reality, and artificial intelligence has shifted the teaching day from static lessons to immersive, practical experiences. At the heart of this shift are educators like Tamsin Carelse.

A Grade 6 teacher at Pinelands North Primary School, Tamsin’s journey is one of professional rediscovery. After recognising a shift in her own enthusiasm during her transition from learner to teacher, she became determined to fix the learning environment from within the classroom.

For many educators, the CAPS curriculum is viewed as a rigid framework. However, Tamsin challenges this perspective. While the curriculum provides the foundation, she believes there are infinite, creative ways to bring those lessons to life. By utilising ICT to support every child, Tamsin ensures that technology makes the abstract feel tangible and the difficult feel achievable.

At Injini, we recognise that teachers like Tamsin are the architects of the future. When an educator leads with passion, they encourage children to dream bigger. Behind every future engineer, doctor, and designer is a teacher who was brave enough to innovate. Tamsin’s story reminds us that when we embrace change, we are doing more than just teaching. We are empowering the next generation of South African changemakers.
