Bridging the Gap Between Education and Dignified Work
Bridging the Gap Between Education and Dignified Work

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
Tackling South Africa’s Youth Unemployment Crisis
South Africa's youth unemployment rate stood at 46.1% in the first quarter of 2026, according to Stats SA, among the highest rates in the world. Behind the number is a structural gap: a shortage of quality vocational and work-readiness pathways connecting young people to the economy.
A growing cohort of EdTech entrepreneurs is already building solutions at this intersection: teacher training platforms, tutoring and mentorship tools, and technologies that prepare young people for economic participation. We want to back them.
The EdTech for Employment Incubation Programme equips founders with the tools, evidence and networks to scale their ventures and create measurable economic opportunities for young people.

Yes. The programme specifically targets early-stage South African EdTech solutions designed to support young people aged 15–30 in South Africa, particularly those in underserved communities.
The selection process follows these key steps: 1) Screening & Due Diligence (November 2026): Shortlisted applicants will be asked to submit additional documentation. 2) Founder Interviews (24 November – 2 December 2026): A 45–60 minute virtual interview focusing on your venture, stage, and growth priorities. 3) Selection Announcement (December 2026): Successful and unsuccessful applicants will be notified via email.
The programme is delivered through a hybrid model combining virtual support with two mandatory in-person engagement weeks, a kick-off event, and an end-of-programme showcase.Travel costs for one team member per venture to attend the in-person events will be covered by the programme.
It is a 6-month, equity-free, hybrid incubation programme (Cohort 1 runs from January 2027 through June 2027) built around four core pillars:
1) Product Foundations: Pedagogy expert consultations and facilitated user feedback sessions with youth audiences.
2) Business Sustainability: Financial management, brand strategy, go-to-market guidance, investor-readiness foundations, and support from "Sponsored Skills" consultants.
3) Impact Measurement: Theory of Change development, tracking employment-linked indicators, and user data collection with Injini’s MEL team.
4) Market Engagement & Ecosystem: Engagement weeks, kick-off launch, end-of-programme showcase, partner/customer introductions, and Injini channel promotion.
Key benefits include:
- Equity-free participation.
- Expert consultations with Injini's team of experts.
- Access to Sponsored Skills consultants to deliver targeted outputs (e.g., financial models or refined brand assets).
- Structured user feedback sessions with relevant youth target audiences.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) support to define and track youth employment impact.
- Introductions to prospective partners, customers, and ecosystem stakeholders.
- Post-programme membership in Injini’s alumni community.
While the broader team is encouraged to engage with virtual activities, at least one representative from each selected venture must commit to attending all mandatory events, including the in-person Engagement Weeks, kick-off event, and final showcase. Travel costs are covered for one team member per venture.
Following selection announcements in December 2026, onboarding and needs assessments begin virtually in January 2027. During this time, your venture will co-design custom programme milestones with the Injini team prior to the official kick-off event early in 2027.
After completing the 6-month programme, ventures become part of Injini’s alumni network with ongoing promotion and ecosystem event invitations.
