Bridging Gaps in Education and Employment with Edulution

Edulution was founded in 2016 by Michael Wray, with David Fair and Sharon Panicco, in rural Zambia. Their goal was to address the severe shortage of mathematics teaching capacity in underserved schools, a gap that was leaving countless learners behind.

With the rise of low-cost tablets, open-source content, and a growing population of unemployed youth, the founders realised an opportunity to build something different; a model that pairs blended learning with youth mentorship, in full collaboration with schools. The result was Edulution, a learning platform that works offline, off-grid, and at scale.

Growing Impact from the Ground Up

Since its founding, Edulution has expanded across Zambia, Namibia, and South Africa, bringing their maths programme to learners in vulnerable communities. The model blends digital content, coach-led facilitation, and real-time data to support learners as they master core numeracy skills at their own pace.

Importantly, the programme also trains and employs youth coaches, many of whom are former learners themselves, offering them professional development and a pathway to leadership within their communities.

Tackling Two of Africa’s Most Urgent Challenges

The team at Edulution is addressing two key issues: poor math outcomes and rising youth unemployment. Without a mastery of mathematics, learners face barriers to further study and employment. Without access to opportunities, many young people are left unemployed after completing school.

Edulution’s solution directly addresses both. Learners receive engaging, personalised support aligned to their national curriculum, and youth coaches gain purpose, income, and skills through employment in education.

Edulution is transforming the landscape of African education and leadership through their scalable impact, community integration, and proven track record of success.
