Huddle Education was co-founded by Sarah Binos and Dominic Koenig, and incubated through the South African Innovative Learning Intervention (SAILI). Huddle exists to provide high-quality, accessible education to every learner in South Africa, and eventually across the continent.

In 2023, Huddle launched its first five blended learning classrooms across two schools, one low-cost independent school and one no-fee public school.

From the start, the Huddle team believed that while technology is a powerful tool, education must remain human-centred. Learning occurs most effectively when children engage with content, peers, and the adults guiding them.

Huddle’s mission is to combine people, technology, and joyful physical spaces to transform learning outcomes, without losing the vital human connection at the heart of great education.

Blending Great Teaching with Innovative Technology

Huddle’s vision is to ensure that every child in South Africa (and Africa) has access to excellent education, regardless of their circumstances. Their model combines the best of human support, engaging digital content, gifted teachers, and joyful classroom environments.

Huddle delivers a blended, one-to-many model, where great teachers can reach many learners through two delivery modes:

  • Conquer Mode: Individual, device-based learning that allows students to work at their own pace while developing mastery.

  • Community Mode: Shared, projected lessons from excellent teachers, supported by in-class facilitators who guide the learning process.

This approach delivers the CAPS curriculum with real-time testability, data-driven feedback, and structured, evidence-based pedagogy. It empowers learners, teachers, school leaders, and even unemployed youth involved in classroom facilitation, creating opportunities across the education ecosystem.

Tackling Inequality, Empowering Teachers

Despite growing investment in education, 80% of South African schools still struggle with poor learning outcomes. Overcrowded classrooms, stretched teachers, and limited access to quality instruction continue to hold learners back.

Huddle addresses this by amplifying great teaching, supporting local educators with high-quality tools, and embedding professional development into its model.

Rather than replacing teachers with technology, Huddle supercharges them, providing classrooms with the structure, tools, and support they need to help every child thrive.
